Almost every child asks it, usually somewhere around four, and usually at the worst possible moment, lights off, one more question, you are already late. The question is not a problem. It is a sign they have understood something real: that Allah is not a thing in the room.
Why they ask it
A four-year-old thinks in places. Everything they know about has a where, the cat is under the stairs, grandma is in Hyderabad, the moon is up there. So when they learn that Allah made all of it, the next question is automatic and it is not a challenge. It is a filing problem.
The question is not doubt. It is a child trying to put something enormous into the only category they have.
The answer itself
Keep it short, keep it true, and do not be afraid of the part you cannot explain. Something close to this works for most children at this age:
- Allah is not inside His creation the way we are inside a room.
- He is above it, and He is closer to you than anyone.
- You cannot see Him now. That is on purpose.
Then stop. The instinct is to keep going until the child looks satisfied. Resist it. A short true answer they remember beats a long one they abandon.
Two answers to avoid

Both of the left-hand answers are meant kindly and both create work for you later. The right-hand versions say the same comforting thing without anything to undo.

When they get older
Around eight or nine the same child will ask again, and this time they will want the reasoning, not the summary. That is the right moment for the evidence, and it lands properly because you did not give them anything to unlearn at four.
